Simple Success Solutions: Adapt To Change – Amazon.com
What does it take to be successful? Gulf Coast Business Credit (GCBC)’s "Simple Success Solutions" is a series which examines entrepreneurial and startup success stories. This week’s tip is to adapt to change as Amazon.com did.
Ranked among the top 10 retailers by the National Retail Federation, Amazon.com began as a startup in Seattle, Washington in 1995. Amazon.com‘s founder, Jeff Bezos, originally created the website to enable customers to browse millions of book titles in a single sitting and the option to purchase them online.
In order to succeed, the company adapted to the change in technology as well as their customers’ needs and wants. By September 1997, Amazon.com changed the game for the online shopping experience and introduced 1-Click™ Shopping. This feature allowed customers to make online purchases in one single click. To help strengthen and grow their company, they then created the Amazon Advantage Program in February 1998, where booksellers could partner with Amazon to sell their books.
As technology evolved, so did Amazon.com. By 2000, Amazon.com began offering an e-commerce platform for other retailers and individual sellers and by 2007 they introduced the first Kindle. The Kindle allowed customers to wirelessly download books, newspapers, and other documents to a portable device with a display screen that mimicked real paper.
Today, Amazon.com is not only a website but an e-commerce partner and a development platform. Amazon.com took on several risks when they adapted to change but with hard work and patience they succeeded.
Gulf Coast Business Credit has helped a variety of startup businesses by supplying accounts receivable financing to increase their cash flow. With an increased cash flow, your business can focus on growing rather than being held captive by slow-paying customers.
